Stephen smashes his way to victory!
Thursday 23rd August 2018
Event start: 18:00
Smash Bar, Wimbledon
Stephen Chan put his accountancy books aside to beat off fierce competition at AFC Wimbledon Business Club’s Table Tennis Championship.
Stephen, a Director at WSM Partners LLP in Wimbledon, has been known to win a tournament or two before and there was no stopping him last Thursday!
There was a gallant effort from Richard Evans in the final, but it was not enough to prevent a deserved victory for Stephen, who had looked in pretty ominous form during the warm-up matches!
“I just came down for some fun and it’s been a very enjoyable evening,” said Stephen after his impressive victory. “I used to play table tennis when I was younger at Brunswick Youth Club. I thought I’d come down and have a go. It is great that Wimbledon are moving back to the area as I remember the club winning the FA Cup with Vinnie Jones, Lawrie Sanchez and the rest of the Crazy Gang.”
Stephen is now looking forward to enjoying his prize, which is a hospitality ticket for two at an AFC Wimbledon match this season. The event was kindly hosted by Smash in Broadway, Wimbledon, a venue that offers people a chance to play table tennis while enjoying a drink or two.

Richard Evans, the co-owner at Amicus Insurance Brokers in Croydon, put up a bold show on the night to reach the final.
“This type of event is really good as it offers a chance to make contacts in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere,” said Richard. “I met with Irene Strank, who recommended that I join the Business Club, and I thought I would give it a go. I went to Sacred Heart School in Roehampton and I remember then Wimbledon manager Dario Gradi making a visit and signing autographs for everyone. Wimbledon is a community club and it’s superb news that the club is coming home.”
A total of 24 players took part in the table tennis championship, which was played in a great spirit. Since being launched last October, the AFC Wimbledon Business Club has hosted a variety of events and next month’s one promises to be particularly exciting – an evening at Stronger Fitness & Martial Arts!
