Match Day Hospitality
Monday January 1st 2018
Event start: 12.00
Cherry Red Records Stadium
New Years Day saw the third meetup of the AFC Wimbledon Business Club, this time at the heart of the club for hospitality on match day, sponsored by Business Club member UK Agora. The event brought a number of members together for food, networking and talks from Wimbledon greats past and present.
The day started with a hearty three course meal in the Hospitality Restaurant that went a long way to help everyone recover from their celebrations the previous night! Commercial Director Ivor Heller then stepped up to welcome everyone to hospitality and introduce special guests.
First onto the podium for a robust interview with Ivor was Wimbledon legend Lawrie Sanchez who was appearing as guest of honour for the match. Having been the goal scoring hero for Wimbledon’s 1988 FA Cup final win, it was an apt choice with minds turning to the upcoming FA Cup 3rd round match at Wembley against Tottenham Hotspur.
Following Lawrie was manager Neal Ardley to give attendees the team news and talk about the focus his team had for the game at hand against Southend United.
At 3pm the members were in their seats for the game and enjoyed a first half of disciplined play from the Dons, capped off with a goal from Liam Trotter. Going back to the Hospitality Restaurant for a hot beverage and a pastry at half time, everyone was in good spirits having just witnessed a solid display that deserved the lead.
It only took 3 minutes from the start of the second half to have members off their seats again, celebrating a second goal for the Dons. The team maintained their resolute play for the rest of the game and the win, a first against Southend United at the Cherry Red Records stadium, rounded off a very enjoyable day to kick off the new year.
With new members joining all the time, and the news of our return to Plough Lane still fresh in our minds, 2018 certainly got off to the perfect start and looks set to be a very successful one for the business club and its members!
